GALAPAGOS
Galapagos is an archipelago that belongs to the Republic of Ecuador located 999 km away from the nearest coast. Its geographical location is key for surfing as being on the equator means that it receives swells from every direction; this provides the surfer with opportunities to ride big waves, small waves, a frame waves, right waves and left waves. San Cristobal Island, located on the Southwest side of the archipelago, is particularly recognised as the place that offers the best quality of waves, consistently, and with world class conditions.
SURFING IN GALAPAGOS
Even though San Cristobal has good waves year-round, the warm season (from December to April) is recognised as the best time of the year for surfing. This is due to the El Niño current with its Northern swells and favourable winds. However, during the cold season (from May to November) the Humboldt current, coming from southern Latin America, makes it so the water temperatures are lower and there are swells that hit the islands with higher consistency. Points like Carola, El Cañón, Manglesito, Tongo Reef and La Lobería, which offer their incomparable waves throughout the year, make San Cristobal the surfing capital in Galapagos and the perfect destiny for an unforgettable surf trip.
